自从PMC去年十一月宣布加入Canonical’s Ubuntu OpenStack互通性实验室,近期又加入了OpenPOWER基金会,该基金会是一个开源开发的社区,倡导基于IBM推出的下一代POWER微处理器架构的软硬件的合作开发。
开源的大趋势带来的驱动力是显而易见的。正如许多个人积极地拥抱了开源的理念,将其当成能够参与到新技术革命当中的宝贵机会,如Google,Rackspace等领军科技公司、甚至中国的高科技公司都在踊跃地投身其中。参与开源带来的跨公司的协力创新以及影响技术发展方向的可能性都让这些公司无法坐视不顾。
PMC的许多战略合作伙伴均是OpenPOWER的成员,其中包括:Canonical,Chelsio,Mellanox,Memblaze, Micron, Samsung以及Tyan。加入该基金会让PMC得以更好地与合作伙伴的生态圈互相整合,从而为共同的客户提供更加优质的服务和产品。

加入到OpenPOWER基金会将使PMC得以接触到POWER的各种技术(比如Coherent Accelerator Processor Interface (CAPI)(相干加速器处理器接口),该技术可以极大地加速高速闪存解决方案中的I/O功能),并将这些技术集成到PMC的产品当中,从而进一步为集成了IBM POWER CPU及PMC Serial Attached SCSI (SAS)和NVM Express? (NVMe)产品的下一代超大规模及云数据中心的开发者提供更多的选择、更佳的控制以及更好的灵活性。

Open Source paves New Roads to Advanced Server,
Networking, Storage and acceleration technology
Since announcingour involvement in Canonical’s Ubuntu OpenStack Interoperability Lab in November of last year, PMC has also recently joined theOpenPOWERF oundation, an open development community that promotes the collaborative development of hardware and software based on IBM’snext-generation POWER microprocessor architecture.
The traction beinggained by the open source movement is evident here. Just as individuals areembracing open source as a chance to participate in a revolution, so areleading companies like Google, Rackspace and even tech companies from China.The promise of cross-company innovation and the ability to influence thedirection that the movement will take are opportunities that are too valuableto pass up.
Many of PMC’sstrategic partners are OpenPOWER members, includingCanonical,Chelsio,Mellanox,Memblaze, Micron, Samsung, and Tyan. Joining the Foundationgives us the opportunity to further integrate PMC’s ecosystem with those of ourpartners in order to better serve our joint customers.
PMC will alsocollaborate with other organizations on open source software and advancedstorage acceleration technologies. Along with IBM, Emulex, Qlogic andMellanox, PMC was a co-sponsor of the new I/O workgroup, for example. PMChas also joined the system software, hardware architecture, coherentaccelerator architecture (CIAA) and open server development platform workgroups(for working group info, log on to http://openpowerfoundation.org/technical/working-groups/).
Our participationin the Foundation will give us access to POWER technologies (such asCoherent Accelerator Processor Interface (CAPI),which greatly accelerates I/O functions in high-speed flash solutions) that canbe integrated into PMC products. With that, we’ll be able to deliver morechoice, control and flexibility to developers of next-generation hyperscale andcloud data centers that integrate IBM POWER CPUs with PMCSerial Attached SCSI (SAS) and/or NVM Express? (NVMe)products.
